Director: Univ.-Prof. Dr. Ludwig Aigner
The Institute of Molecular Regenerative Medicine at the Paracelsus Medical University in Salzburg was founded on 11 December 2008. The Institute is funded by the State of Salzburg for a period of 5 years in the frame of an endowed professorship. Univ.-Prof. Dr. Ludwig Aigner was appointed as the chair and is heading the Institute since 1 November 2008. We are located on the 2nd floor of the Wyss-Building of the Paracelsus Medical University. Regenerative Medicine aims to treat diseases through the reconstitution of cellular or tissue function. It uses either cell or tissue replacement strategies based on transplantation or it promotes endogenous repair processes. We are focusing our research on the nervous system, in particular on the brain, and its diseases. We identify repair mechanisms and aim to develop therapeutic strategies that are based on such mechanisms. Our focus is on immature cells in the brain that generate new nerve cells throughout lifetime.
