Course:
In 2 Modules in 6 semesters with a total of 96 ECTS points

Design:
Part-time, modular

Admission requirements:
A degree in medicine or diploma in health and nursing and a minimum of two years working experience in healthcare as a registered nurse or physician and currently involved in caring for people with chronic wounds.

Credits:
Given for relevant education and training (e.g. Certified Wound Manager) on approval by the Paracelsus Medical University.

Degree: 
Academic Expert in Wound Care Management Certificate (on successful completion of  Module I)
Master of Science (Wound Care Management), MSc. (on successful completion of Module II)

Target Group:
The university course is aimed at

  • Physicians and
  • registered health care professionals and nurses

with the appropriate professional and practical experience in wound care, who are interested in:

  • acquiring expertise in the care of chronic wounds
  • acquiring social skills in dealing with chronically ill people
  • gaining knowledge in health economics, health legislation and health management
  • learning to carry out scientific research and its application in routine practice as well as carrying out independent scientific work
  • in benefiting from the transfer of knowledge between theory and practice
  • in the further development and optimization of patient care
  • in promoting inter-disciplinary co-operations
  • in assuming leading positions in the area of wound care

Objectives of the course and benefits to graduates:
The aim of the university training course is to broaden and intensify the participants’ expertise in the care of chronic wounds. The acquisition of management skills, knowledge in health economics and law provide the basis to later assume managerial positions. The link between scientific theory and professional practice is also promoted, as are the strengthening of social skills, the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and the lively exchange of ideas on a interdisciplinary level.

Teaching staff comprises professionals working hospitals, health centers, nursing homes, universities and colleges, as well as relevant partners in industry and further institutions, including in Austria, Germany, Italy, England and Canada.
