Welcome

The Paracelsus Medical University in Salzburg was founded in 2002 with the support of its founders and benefactors, the pro-vincial, the municipal and regional administrations of Salzburg and private sponsors. The Paracelsus University is a young university with the highest professional standards. We consider our mission  in teaching and research in the field of human medicine and in related health sciences disciplines. Our stu-dents are trained as MDs and are able to attain a PhD in mole-cular medicine at our university institutes, at the Salzburg Uni-versity Hospital, and at selected teaching hospitals. In addition, we offer a variety of  postgraduate programs and degree courses. At the heart of all our endeavors lie the patients. The Paracelsus University ‘s hallmark is its international network in its teaching and research. Constructive and beneficial partner-ships in medical and scientific fields have been established with the Mayo Medical School (USA), Charles University in Prague, Capital Medical University Beijing (CMU), the universities of Yale, Milan, Cambridge, North Florida, Glasgow as well as the national universities.

Securing Salzburg in its development as a scientific center and economic hotspot  is one of the Paracelsus Medical University’s main objectives. In addition to funding its research institutes, the Paracelsus Private Medical University supports the implementation of scientific projects at the university clinics and institutes with research funds.

Our students donated 5.000 Euros raised by the event "Free Your Elements" to the Sterntalerhof - a children's home

04.06.2009

The Charity-clubbing "Free Your Elements" - organized by the Parcelsus University students of the year 2006 (Students active, caritative - registered association) - was a great success. Our students donated 5.000 Euros raised by the event to the Sterntalerhof - a children's home.

Nobody watches, nobody listens. Let us try it.
A report by Theresa Liebl, Nora Reiter und Roman Wodnar

Rarely there are destinies, that make us more concerned and helpless, than the one of desperately ill and mistreated children and their families.

Stays in various hospitals, radical and weakening therapies, financial distress and even more despair that perveils against hope and life. Most physicians in our healthcare system do not have sufficient time to listen. Friends and families are often overcharged, contacts to the social environment gets lost. Finally pure dejection pervails. In such hopeless situation „Sterntalerhof“ is an ark of modern times, an island outside sterile hospitals, which offers serenity and encourages vitality again.

After an odyssey through the hills of „Burgenland“, impressions of quaint little villages we finally found „Sterntalerhof“, a spot of secureness and harmony. Even at the end of our demanding third year of studies we realized: This is about much more. Peter Kai, manager of „Sterntalerhof“ explained why this place is so special: „It is the more of help one gets here, sympathetic listening and the individual care of the little patients and their families.“ Shelter is offer to young mothers or families, that just have lost their beloved child, or to children that suddenly seem to be left alone in this world. With simple methods such as conversational therapy, horse riding therapy and music therapy, applied by perfectly skilled therapists impressive success is achieved.

Through a broad spectrum of various strokes of fate Sterntalerhof has soon reached the limits of their capacity, as the need for such care centres is by far not covered. To improve this situation the people in charge of Stentalerhof have decided to move from their current premises to a new site, which even will offer a roofed riding hall for perennial use. „ It is not important for us to develop largest possible centre, we are striving to keep the high standard of care for the individual. This is what we stand for. To cover the total need, we dream of many more small establishments such as Sterntalerhof in Austria.“

As the service of Sterntalerhof is - besides a voluntary contribution - free of charge for everyone effected, and the costs of hospice establishments are still not covered by the statutory health insurance, the management of Sterntalerhof is continously confronted with financial straits, caused by the new building. These straits can only be overcome by donations. After our visit to Sterntalerhof we are glad but also thankful that we could support this institution.

A little place of shelter in this fast moving world, where „being is more important than doing“. With great debt of gratitude for the support of all sponsors and supporters of the charity event „Free Your Elements“ on March 27th 2009, where 7 5000.- were collected for Sterntalerhof.
