University Course for Healthcare Executives

Brief Course Description

Target group

The course is aimed at middle management healthcare and nursing executives working in the healthcare or social sector, who wish to broaden their skills as management executives. 


 
Objectives

The course is interdisciplinary. Its objective is to convey basic as well as in-depth knowledge, concepts and methods in the nursing sciences, social sciences, law and economics, which are required for leading positions in basic and intermediate healthcare management.

The course content and objectives are based on the "Specialized Education in Healthcare and Nursing Management Act" and include the following:

Scientific skills are taught to enable a systematic and scientific approach to healthcare. Students learn how to approach scientific literature and implement it in healthcare management. Students are given a solid grounding in healthcare and nursing sciences theory, which enables critical thinking and further development of healthcare models in practice. Scientific work within this field provides students with the necessary skills and knowledge to innovate and improve healthcare in practice. (...) Students acquire knowledge in basic law, scientific theory and methods, healthcare models etc., which counts towards their personal professional development (taken from the latest published draft of the "Specialized Education in Healthcare and Nursing Management Act", August 2002).



 
Skills acquired by graduates

On completion of the degree course, participants will have acquired the following key skills:
 

  • the ability to interpret, evaluate and implement scientific findings
  • excellent social skills and the ability to lead, guide, instruct and support
  • theoretical knowledge and practical experience in project management and the ability to implement a specific healthcare
    project independently and professionally
  • solid theoretical grounding and practical experience. This is developed through self-reflection and discussion in small work groups.
