Mobility, facilitated by healthy bones and joints, is a prerequisite for a good quality of life and high life expectancy. Injuries to the musculoskeletal system and degenerative diseases, such as osteoporosis and osteoarthritis, reduce mobility.

The research focus, musculoskeletal diseases, biomechanics and sports medicine is working on the development of new and improved ways of treating these musculoskeletal disorders.

The biomechanical laboratory in Murnau serves as the central location for this research focus, which was established at the Paracelsus Medical University.

The biomechanical laboratory’s core competence lies in the mechanical testing of biological tissue, particularly in conjunction with medical implants. Basic research is conducted and effective solutions are sought for clinical practice. A key focus area is the osteosynthetic and prosthetic treatment of fractures in osteoporotic bone. Treatment of these fractures remains unsatisfactory and is still accompanied by a shockingly high morbidity rate and mortality rate.
