Oncological Diseases

The Salzburg County Hospitals and the University Clinic for Internal Medicine III (Oncolgy Department) in particular, are actively involved in clinical, scientific and translational research activities on oncological diseases.

In addition to the Oncology Center at the Department of Oncology, the regional government of Salzburg plans to establish an interdisciplinary tumor center. Scientific research will focus on the basis of molecular, immunological and cell biological carcinogenicity, especially of lymphoid neoplasms, as well as solid tumors arising in breast cancer. The Oncology Department, Medicine III and the Interdisciplinary Tumor Center for Lymphoproliferative Disorders run national and international clinical research on breast cancer, which will be extended to include other tumor entities.

Scientific activities will focus on oncogenic aberrations, impaired signal transduction as a result of growth abnormalities, alteration of tumor suppressor genes, apoptosis in the context of carcinogenicity and interactions between immunological and neoplastic diseases. The affiliated Faculty of Science at the Paris Lodron University Salzburg, offers a foundation course together with joint research projects and further specialized training.
