The Research Institute Gastein (FOI) is an institute of the Paracelsus Medical University and is affiliated to the Institute of Physiology and Pathophysiology. The FOI’s primary task is to coordinate and implement basic scientific studies and clinical trials, which will enhance and further develop Gastein’s standing in health care. Particular emphasis is placed on balneology, physical therapy, rehabilitation research and pain therapy research. The FOI works in close cooperation with the responsible institutions and healthcare facilities in the Gastein valley, the Paracelsus University Clinics and Institutes, as well as national and international universities and research centers.
