We are a medical university in private ownership, which asserts a claim to the highest standards. We see our mission in research and teaching in the fields of humane medicine and other health sciences-related subjects. Our students are sent to the university institutes, the University Clinics of the Salzburg General Hospital, Christian Doppler Clinic and selected teaching hospitals to be trained as MDs or acquire PhDs in molecular medicine. In addition, we offer a variety of degree courses and postgraduate courses.
Science is our foundation, both in human medicine as in related subjects. Teaching and research lie in the hands of excellent national and international experts and our quality management system assures the necessary process of constant development. We are open-minded and innovative; therefore, we regularly renew our syllabus and design the courses in accordance with the requirements of a modern healthcare system.
The aim of our university is to create, maintain and promote an intellectually stimulating environment, in which students, doctors, researchers and teachers mutually implement scientific and humanitarian medicine and its related subjects for the well-being of humankind. The dialogue between research, teaching and patient care has the highest priority. We want to play a role in safeguarding the best medical care for patients at the University Clinics and in the province of Salzburg both now as in the future. We also want to contribute impulses that are of cross-regional interest for the continuous improvement of medical care.
Annually we select the most apt students from a large number of qualified applicants from home and abroad to study human medicine. The selection is based on a test and a personal interview in accordance with standardized criteria, regardless of the applicant's economic, social and cultural background. Our scholarship scheme ensures social justice and equal opportunities. Our training is designed to deepen and encourage the strengths and talents of committed, critically thinking young people. We take the concerns of our students seriously, and consider them as partners whom we always treat with respect.
Teaching is based on the most modern scientific principles of human medicine. Our graduates should distinguish themselves in being professionally competent and practicing social responsibility.
Problem-oriented thinking and problem-solving strategies, as well as professional communication and patient-oriented counseling skills are important elements of the curriculum, as are the learning of social and ethical principles in the medical profession. We strive to select and impart what is important and groundbreaking from the abundance of ever-increasing medical knowledge and to teach our students to focus on the fundamental essentials.
Our patients lie at the heart of all our endeavors. We bestow upon our open-minded and dedicated doctors, scientists, students and graduates the duty to always let their medical and academic performance be guided by their patient's requirements, needs and wishes. It is understood that the desire to engage in lifelong learning is an integral part of our medical and academic activities.
In compliance with international standards, we have established networks with the University of Salzburg, with other partner universities and partner clinics in Germany and abroad as well as with research and marketing companies. We see ourselves as a growing regional scientific and economic hot spot, which sustainably promotes Salzburg as a center of excellence.
