Nursing Sciences

Head: Univ. Prof. Dr. Jürgen Osterbrink

The Institute of Nursing Sciences was founded on 01.04.2007.

The Paracelsus University of Salzburg has offered a course in nursing sciences alongside the study of human medicine since 2007. This course is the University’s response to social, demographic and medical trends in order keep abreast of the demands of modern-day healthcare.

Against the backdrop of social and structural change within the healthcare services, the Institute of Nursing Sciences has set itself the target of producing professionally competent nursing scientists. The combination of research and teaching, theory and practice provides a scientific basis to guarantee modern-day patient care. This meets the demands of the Austrian healthcare system and ensures that nursing is practiced according to the most recent scientific findings. Teaching and research are characterized by a strong link between theory and practice, which is particularly supported by the University’s involvement in the Salzburg county clinics. The Institute also strives to increase interdisciplinary cooperation.

Another innovative addition to the university syllabus was the basic course 2-in-1 Care Model course. This is based on the European standards of education for healthcare professions and was launched in October 2008.

Nursing research focuses on gerontology/ mental health and pediatrics.
