PD Dr. Nikolaus Netzer - Curriculum Vitae

  After completing his medical studies between 1981 and 1988 at the Ludwig Maximilans University, Munich, the University of Innsbruck and the University of Miami, Dr. Netzer commenced his specialist training at the Department of Pediatric Genetics at the University Hospital in Munich (Prof. Murken). This continued at the University Clinic Ingolstadt, the Clinic for Respiratory Diseases in Bad Reichenhall (Prof. Petro) and finally in the departments of pneumology and sports medicine at the University Hospital Freiburg, with a focus on internal medicine and pulmonary medicine (Prof. Matthys), and sports medicine (Prof.Keul). Dr. Netzer was was awarded a magna cum laude doctorate in the field of pulmonary medicine in Munich in 1989. On qualifying as a consultant in internal medicine and pulmonary medicine, Dr. Netzer was appointed as Prof. Manfred Lehman’s senior consultant in the Department of Sports Medicine (University of Ulm). Dr. Netzer enjoyed two visiting professorships at Stanford University Palo Alto, California and Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio. He accompanied mentor Prof. Kingman Strohl to Cleveland, where he pursued research in sleep medicine and completed his specialist training in geriatrics between 1996 and 1998. Two years of employment as a research doctor followed at the Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington DC, which is the main U.S. military hospital and health provider for the U.S. President. Since 1991, he and his partner Dr. Wolfgang Paa have led the Clinic for Sleep Disorders, which has been located in the Kurmittelhaus der Moderne since 2006. He has been managing director of the Specialist Clinic for Geriatric Rehabilitation in Ghersburg since 2005. Since June 2004, Dr. Netzer has had a habilitation in internal medicine at the University of Ulm where he holds courses and lectures on expedition medicine. Dr. Netzer teaches pneumology and sleep medicine at the Paracelsus Medical University Salzburg. He is an esteemed member of the American Thoracic Society Program Committee, the Publishers Advisory Board of the Library of Medicine, as well as chairman of the Society for Applied Sleep Medicine. Since 1996, Dr. Netzer has been Editor in chief of the specialist journal "Sleep and Breathing” (Springer Publications) in collaboration with Prof. Strohl. He has also been a board member of the EADSM (European Society of Dental Sleep Medicine) since 2006. He has been awarded the Forschungspreis der Mitteldeutschen Gesellschaft für Pneumologie (research prize in pneumology) and the Prof. Mayer Ewert Preis der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Zahnärztliche Schlafmedizin (award for extraordinary contributions in sleep medicine). He has produced approx. 150 scientific publications including contributions to Annals of Internal Medicine, Chest and Sleep as well as numerous articles in standard textbooks.



Dr. rer nat. Martin Tonko
Scientific Coordinator CV 

  Martin Tonko studied biology and molecular biology at the Universities of Innsbruck and Vienna (1990-1997) before returning to the University of Innsbruck (1997 -2000) to complete his PhD and work as a research assistant. His thesis on controlled glucocorticoid-poptosis mechanisms in leukemia cells achieved worldwide recognition and was published by the American Molecular Biology Society, FASEB. He continued his education and was awarded a Master of Business Science to then head the Research Coordination and Third-party Application of the Medical Faculty of the Innsbruck University from 2002-2006 and the PMU from 2006-2008. Since 2008 he has been the scientific coordinator at our institution. He is managing director of the Global Economic Network where he is also a board member.


Mag. Roland Chytra
Sports Scientist  CV

Roland Chytra studied sports at the Paris Lodron University Salzburg from 2002 to 2007. Since completing his practical studies, he has been involved in the foundation of the Hermann Buhl Institute. He has successfully completed his dissertation on the use of hypoxia training compared to normal endurance training in support of weight loss in obesity. He was in charge of hypoxia at the Institute in Bad Reichenhall between 2006-2008 and is currently working as a freelance member of staff in the hypoxia department at Bad Aibling.


Daniel Dupré

Daniel Dupre studied sports at the University of Erfurt (2004- 2008). Before he started working at the Hermann Buhl Institute his professional interests, as well as his dissertation were concerned with rehabilitation.
