Nursing Science 2in1-Model Bavaria

The bachelor study "2in1-Model Bavaria" is the result of a cooperation between Paracelsus Medical Private University and selected professional schools for nursing in Bavaria. With this, the partners present an innovative educational offer to the nursing care professional field, which complies with European requirements.

The development of the study program is an EU-supported interregional project.

The "Agency for Quality Assurance and Accreditation Austria" (AQ Austria) of the Republic of Austria approved the application for accreditation for six years on November 11, 2014. The course of studies is expected to start for the first time in October 2015.

Profile

One course of studies – two certificates

The integration of the contents of the study programs in the healthcare and nursing care fields with the scientific expertise of Paracelsus Medical Private University makes it possible to graduate in eight semesters using a completely newly development curriculum, which fulfils the legal requirements of all participating countries, both in the university bachelor degree program and the state examination in the healthcare and nursing care.


Scientific environment

Paracelsus Medical Private University guarantees the scientific foundation, the practice-oriented research competence and inter-professional as well as international orientation beginning as early as the first semester.

The cooperating healthcare and nursing care schools stand for comprehensive professional competence of their students and for didactically high-value education. The graduation from the "Nursing Science 2in1-Model Bavaria" study program offers the best opportunities for further study in the healthcare field and the higher level of qualification is possible at any time. For example, those who are interested can obtain the master's degree in nursing science in only a few semesters.

The dynamic changes in the field of healthcare and in the society require innovative and competent care in the areas of healthcare, prevention and consulting. This can be achieved only by professional nursing specialists who possess both practical nursing care knowledge and nursing science knowledge. Therefore, this study model provides abilities, skills and competences in the healthcare and nursing care education as well as a scientific qualification. The versatile professional field of nursing and nursing science opens attractive areas for activity in healthcare and nursing facilities, hospitals, ministries, publishing houses, health-consultant groups and medical companies in the nursing sector as well as in the freelance field.

This education corresponds to the basic understanding of a professional occupation at international level.


Specific features

Practical training abroad:
Currently, there is cooperation with nursing and nursing science study programs (schools of nursing) of the University of North Florida/USA, the Louisiana College/USA, the Old Dominion University in Virginia/USA, the Brock University in Ontario/Canada, the University of Adelaide/Australia, the Khon Kaen University/Thailand and the University of Stirling/Scotland. The university as a whole has also other renowned international cooperation partners.

Optimal student support – mentoring:
The students stand in the centre The teachers must be not only knowledge mediators but above all mentors who continuously support the students in obtaining the required skills and competences.

Study structure

The course of studies is designed as full-time study program with presence times, self-study phases and practice phases.

The theoretical and practical study contents were compacted by a consistent interlinking of the contents of the healthcare and nursing care education (in accordance with the German Nursing Care Act of 2004) with the nursing science contents. This permits to complete both the practical nursing care eduction and the scientific expertise in a period of study of only eight semesters.

Admission prerequisite

General university entrance qualifications (higher-school certificate/school-leaving examination or university entrance examination).

The university entrance examination consists of five separate exams: Mathematics, living foreign language, biology and at least one additional selective speciality (depending on the choice of the candidates, from the area of their desired field of study, their professional prerequisites, or the professional fields of activity corresponding to the study).

Study fees and insurance

The study fees are 1,900 Euros per study year (plus an annual valorisation beginning from the second year of study); in addition there is a one-time processing fee of 50 Euros at the start of the study and an annual examination fee of 125 Euros.

The students are insured for social security due to their student status at the cooperating schools during the time of the study and receive a monthly allowance depending on the state-based regulations (regulated by the TVöD [Collective Agreement for Public Service Employees - translator's note]).

In addition, there are also affordable models for pre-financing the student fees based on certain criteria.
