Physiology, Pathophysiology and Biophysics

coordinator: Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Markus Ritter

The institutes for physiology and pathophysiology represent the subjects Physiology and Pathophysiology as well as Biophysics in teaching and research at the locations in Salzburg and Nuremberg. The department at the Salzburg location includes three research groups.

The Laboratory of Functional and Molecular Membrane Physiology (FMMP) and the Laboratory of Tumour Biology and Experimental Therapies (TREAT) are devoted to the research on disease-relevant biological processes. In the FMMP laboratory, the properties of the cell membranes in the tumour cells and the microglia cells are researched. In the TREAT laboratory, the mechanisms of the tumour formation and progression as well as new, target-oriented therapies are researched. The tumour stem cells, the epigenetic regulation mechanisms as well as the photodynamic therapy are researched.

The Gastein Research Institute (FOI) is part of the Institute for Physiology and Pathophysiology. The focus is on evidence-based research of natural health sources. New healing methods in the subject complex of nature and health are developed and implemented here.

The Institute of Physiology and Pathophysiology is member of the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute - Arthritis and Rehabilitation.

Location Nuremberg

Director: Univ.- Prof. DDr. Boris Musset

Research

Four research groups belong to the department at the Salzburg location:

The Laboratory for Functional and Molecular Membrane Physiology (FMMP) and the Laboratory for Tumour Biology and Experimental Therapies (TREAT) are focused on the disease-relevant biological processes.

In the FMMP Laboratory, the properties of the cell membranes in tumour cells and microglia sells are researched. In the TREAT laboratory, the mechanisms of the tumour formation and progression as well as new, target-oriented therapies are researched. The tumour stem cells, the epigenetic regulation mechanisms as well as the photodynamic therapy are researched.

The Laboratory for Translational Immune Research (TIF) and the Gastein Research Institute (FOI) are focused on the evidence-based research of natural health resources. New healing methods in the subject complex of nature and health are developed and implemented here.

The Institute of Physiology and Pathophysiology is member of the Ludwig Boltzmann "Arthritis and Rehabilitation" clusters.
