Research development

The creation and expansion of excellent research has been a core objective of Paracelsus Medical Private University from the start. In the first ten years of its existence, also the scientific output of the university (measured by the publication rate) has increased more than tenfold. Today about 70 scientific research work groups are active at Paracelsus University. They are both at the Salzburg University Hospital (the Salzburg State Hospital SALK) and at the institutes and the research programs of the university.

More than three-fourths of the scientific research work groups are clinical research groups. The well-founded research results will ensure the best possible healthcare provision of the population at the latest state-of-the-art and with most modern methods. The biomedical research at Paracelsus Medical University contributes essentially to increasing the productivity and competitiveness of the research, science and thus also to the economic location Salzburg.

In addition, the involvement in international studies is essential just in the clinical research. Thus the medical research of the local healthcare opens also the access to the newest scientific knowledge which can be developed and obtained in cooperation with many renowned institutions both in Salzburg, but also further outside. Therefore, Paracelsus University understands its scientific mission also as a sociopolitical mission.

Through measures for internal research support, successful acquisition of subsidies by its research groups, and last but not least also by infrastructural investments, it became possible in recent years to build up from the already existing infrastructure a more diverse and constantly growing biomedical research landscape.
