We are dedicated to the research of age-related neurodegenerative diseases and traumatic damage to the brain and spinal cord. Our aim is to develop new therapeutic approaches for the functional regeneration of the central nervous system.

The risk of neurodegenerative diseases increases rapidly with age, and by the age of 90, one in two people are affected by dementia. They are also one of the most common causes of death worldwide, alongside cancer and cardiovascular diseases. Neurodegenerative diseases and traumatic spinal cord injuries have a significant impact on the nervous system. The progressive loss of function leads to considerable restrictions in the quality of life of those affected. At present, neither neurodegenerative diseases nor traumatic spinal cord injuries can be cured.
In view of these facts, our research in this field is of crucial importance in order to develop new effective therapies and deepen our understanding of these complex pathologies.

Our research focuses on:

  • Brain ageing
  • Alzheimer's/dementia
  • Paraplegia
