Pediatric disaster medicine Foundations and Future Directions

We are pleased to announce that PMU is hosting a Winter School on Pediatric disaster medicine Foundations and Future Directions held at our campus in Salzburg from March 03 to March 07 2025.

The program is a collaboration between Paracelsus Medical University (PMU), Uniklinikum Landeskliniken Salzburg (SALK), the World Association for Disaster and Emergency Medicine - European Chapter (WADEM-EU), the European Council for Disaster Medicine (ECDM), The European Centre for Disaster Medicine - San Marino (CEMEC) and the World Humanitarian Forum (WHF).

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The “Pediatric Disaster Medicine: Foundations and Future” course is a week-long intensive training program focused on pediatric disaster medicine, an emerging field that addresses the unique needs of children in disaster situations. As the first of its kind in Austria, this course will equip healthcare professionals with essential knowledge, practical skills, and hands-on experience necessary to manage pediatric populations in disaster settings.

The program will cover critical topics, including pediatric triage, mental health support for children, disaster preparedness strategies, and the integration of pediatric care into disaster response systems. Participants will benefit from lectures, case studies, and simulations led by internationally recognized experts from leading institutions.

PREREQUISITE FOR PARTICIPATION

Multi-sectoral health professionals involved in disaster preparedness and response, including pediatricians, emergency medicine physicians, nurses, paramedics, administrators, researchers, industry and disaster management experts.

COURSE DETAILS

Course language is English. The course will be held from Monday, March 03 (9 a.m.) to Friday, March 07, 2025 (4.p.m.) at the Paracelsus Medical University, Salzburg, Austria. Salzburg is a highly attractive city and can be reached easily by plane, train, and car.

Capacity: 60 participants

Certification: All participants will receive a certificate of completion. Professionals can apply for Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits, and Student participants will receive 3 ECTS.

Erasmus + eligibility

This course awards 3 ECTS and follows a BIP-style format. Students can therefore apply for Erasmus+ funding at their home institutions for a blended short-term mobility. The PMU can also sign an Erasmus+ bilateral agreement if required by the student's home university. University staff can also apply for an Erasmus+ grant for staff training. For information about the grant application, applicants should contact their respective home university.

Registration fee

Registration fee includes tuition, laboratory work, social events, lunches, snacks and drinks the week, and certificate of participation at the end. Additional meals, travel, and accommodation are not included and must be arranged for by the participants.

Non-student: € 799,-

Cancellation Policy/ Course Withdrawal:
A cancellation fee equivalent to 50% of the registration fee will apply in case of a cancellation. Course withdrawal after the course has started will be charged with the full module fee.

We will confirm your place in the course within three weeks after receiving your application and send you an invoice including payment instructions.

If you identify as a student, you will be required to submit a copy of your official confirmation of enrolment. If you identify as a PhD student with maximum 50% employment, you need to additionally submit a confirmation of your employment status. Insurance requirement

Please note that laboratory as well as outdoor activities will be carried out as part of the program. By submitting the online application form, you confirm that, if you are accepted to the course, you will have sufficient accident and liability insurance during the entire program.

DFP Points

Medical doctors in Austria can obtain 42 DFP points upon successful completion of the course.
