Institute of Nursing Science and Practice
Director // Univ.-Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Jürgen Osterbrink
In light of societal and structural changes in healthcare, the institute aims to train its graduates to become competent nursing scientists. The institute's work is founded on three key pillars: education, research, and patient care.
Our Areas of Focus
- Nursing and Healthcare Research based on practical and scientific nursing approaches, both within our institution and in collaboration with external partners: we conduct interprofessional national and international research projects focusing on selected key areas
- Establishment of university-supported clinical nursing expertise through a comprehensive range of study programs and the creation of Nursing Development Centers (NDC), which provide scientific support to professional nursing practices in partner institutions.
- Co-development of nursing education concepts in the tertiary education sector (practice-oriented training programs).
- Serving as a WHO collaborating centre with a focus on patient safety (whocc.pmu.ac.at).
- Collaboration with the Center for Public Healthand Healthcare Research with a focus on primary care: together with the Institute for General-, Family- und Preventive Medicine and the Institute for Pharmacy of the Paracelsus Medical Private University, our institute engages in both fundamental and applied research on public health, healthcare and primary care.
