Palliative Care - Level II
Specialized Advanced Training Program
Level II focuses on deepening professional, organizational, and scientific knowledge, tailored to specific professional groups and fields.
Participants will reflect on and strengthen their professional identity, as well as their specialized role within the interprofessional team.

SPECIALIZED ADVANCED TRAINING PROGRAMS
TARGET GROUP
- Professionals in advanced healthcare and nursing service
- Nursing assistants
- Professionals in the fields of inpatient and outpatient hospice and palliative care, as well as acute and long-term care
CONTENT
- Management of symptoms and functions while considering independence and rehabilitation
- The role of caregivers and related current challenges (e.g., assisted suicide, emotional burden, etc.)
- Anthroposophical nursing
- Palliative care in selected life stages (e.g., geriatrics, pediatrics)
- Palliative care in the context of specific diseases and for individuals with special needs and/or disabilities
- Communication and teamwork in challenging situations and in the context of the professional role, with an emphasis on self-care
- Education, empowerment, and working with families and loved ones
- International structures and organizational models
- Spiritual care and care ethics
- Practical placement (40 hours)
- Fundamentals of research methods and literature review
- Final paper (15-20 pages)

- Palliative care in selected life stages (e.g., geriatrics, pediatrics)
- Palliative care in the context of specific diseases and for individuals with special needs and/or disabilities
- Communication and teamwork in challenging situations and in the context of the professional role, with an emphasis on self-care
- Role of medical professionals in advance care planning
- International structures and organizational models
- Medical law
- Spiritual care and medical ethics
- Practical placement (40 hours)
- Fundamentals of research methods and literature review
- Case report (15-20 pages)
The university program is accredited for a continuing education diploma by the Austrian Medical Association (ÖÄK).

- Palliative management of symptoms and functions
- Palliative emergencies and crisis situations in pediatric settings
- Complementary treatment methods
- Special needs in pediatric settings, with particular attention to psychiatric, psychological, and psychotherapeutic dimensions
- Communication and teamwork in challenging situations and in working with the family environment
- International structures and organizational models
- Law, ethics, and goal setting in therapy
- Spirituality, humanity, and culturally sensitive aspects
- Practical placement (40 hours)
- Fundamentals of research methods and literature review
- Final paper (15-20 pages)

- Rehabilitative Palliative Care
- Palliative Care in selected life phases (e.g., geriatrics, pediatrics)
- Palliative Care in the context of specific diseases and for people with special needs and/or disabilities
- Communication and teamwork in challenging situations and in the context of professional roles, with an emphasis on self-care
- Education, empowerment, and support for family members and loved ones from the perspective of MTD professions
- International structures and organizational forms
- Spiritual Care, ethics, and medical ethics
- Internship (40 hours)
- Fundamentals of scientific methods and literature research
- Thesis (15-20 pages)

- A multidimensional understanding of palliative care, with particular emphasis on the psychological, spiritual, and social dimensions
- Palliative care in selected life stages (e.g., geriatrics, pediatrics), in the context of mental/psychiatric illnesses, and for individuals with special needs
- Communication and teamwork in challenging situations and within the context of the professional role
- Accompanying and communicating with patients and their social environment
- Professional identity of palliative psychology and social work
- Self-care and empowerment strategies for professionals
- International structures and organizational models in palliative care
- Spiritual care and ethics in palliative settings
- Internship (40 hours)
- Fundamentals of scientific methods and literature research
The Palliative Care Program for Psychosocial-Spiritual Professions can be attended at both PMU in Salzburg and at the Hospiz Akademie Bamberg. Please take note of the different program start dates at each location.
