Paracelsus Medical University (PMU)

Institute for Biomechanics

Director // Univ.-Prof. Peter Augat

The Institute of Biomechanics is a leading center for trauma surgery and orthopedic research. Our aim is to research and develop innovative solutions to understand, treat and prevent musculoskeletal injuries.

Our institute is a collaboration between the Paracelsus Medical University and the Berufsgenossenschaftliche Unfallklinik in Murnau, Germany (BGU Murnau).

Our team of researchers, physicians, and engineers works together at the intersection of medicine and technology to find answers to complex questions in biomechanics. We combine cutting-edge technologies with an understanding of patients' needs to develop tailored approaches for their individualized healthcare.

Our research covers a wide range of topics, including the treatment of fractures, ligament injuries, joint- and degenerative diseases such as osteoarthritis or osteoporosis. We investigate the mechanical properties of biological tissues, develop and optimise implants, and research the effects of trauma and disease on the function of the musculoskeletal system.

Through our collaboration with leading medical institutions and industry partners, we can directly translate our research findings into clinical practice, significantly impacting patient care.
