Project content
The Re:GenTravel - Regeneration, Tourism and Quality of Life in the EUREGIO project focuses on the interface between tourism development, health promotion and sustainable regional planning. The aim is to systematically identify nature-based locations with particular recreational potential in the Bavarian-Austrian border region and make them usable on the basis of evidence.
Using an innovative methodological approach, the project combines digital crowdsourcing tools with geoinformatic analysis, environmental measurements and health indicators. Locals and guests use an app to record regenerative places - i.e. places where they feel particularly refreshed. This data is linked with environmental and mobility parameters and visualized in a EUREGIO-wide digital potential map.
Based on these findings, Re:GenTravel is developing new, target group-specific tourism offers aimed at promoting health. These include, for example, digital tools such as an AI-supported regeneration coach or thematically focused experience offers.
The project work follows a transdisciplinary approach and brings together partners from science, destination management, digitalization and regional development. The common goal is to strengthen sustainable tourism strategies that take the environment, population and individual health resources into account.
Planned project results
- Digital regeneration map of the EUREGIO with identified natural sites to promote health and well-being
- Hybrid tourism offers for guests and locals, e.g. an AI-supported regeneration coach
- Guidelines & action plan for the development of regenerative tourism formats
- Workshops & training courses to disseminate knowledge in the region
