Project content

How does wood influence our health in indoor environments? This research project explores this question through a systematic, evidence-based approach. At its core is a systematic review that compiles and critically analyses studies from around the world – with a particular focus on research measuring health outcomes directly in humans. The project considers physical, mental, and public health dimensions, going beyond merely assessing material properties or indoor environmental quality parameters.

The aim is to better understand the potential of wood as a health-relevant – yet complex – material in the built environment. Based on these findings, a practical and scientifically grounded compendium for architecture and spatial design will be developed: a forward-looking tool for designing healthier indoor spaces.
