Paracelsus Medical University (PMU)

Finding & Using library resources
How-to videos & tutorials for ebooks

All ebooks can be accessed via the Paracelsus Medical University’s library catalog. The library offers ebooks through several platforms. Usage terms are set by the publishers and may vary widely. Detailed instructions are available for the EBSCO, Ciando, and Biblioscout platforms.

Ciando ebooks can be downloaded using the free Adobe Digital Editions software (download here). No software is required to read online in your browser window.

Within the PMU/SALK campus network, ebooks can be accessed without registration. Off campus, they can be accessed via EZproxy or by registering on the Ciando platform. Registration instructions can be found here. You must register with your PMU or SALK email address! If you already have an account, enter your credentials at "Sign in with account".

You can read your ebook online or download it to your computer. Please note that books have a loan period of either 24 hours or 336 hours. The loan period will be displayed after you select the ebook. Books with a 24-hour loan cannot be used by more than one user at a time.

Reading online: Single pages are displayed. They can be printed but not saved.
Borrowing (Download): The ebook is downloaded to your device. You can search the full text. Parts of the text can be copied and pasted (10% in 7 days). The ebooks do not need to be returned, they expire automatically after 24 hours or 14 days. Once downloaded, the ebook is protected by DRM (Digital Rights Management). You can only read it on the device you downloaded it to. If you authorize your devices with your Adobe ID, you can copy ebooks to multiple devices. If you do not have an Adobe ID, you can register at Adobe.

Support and information can be found on the Ciando platform under the "FAQ" tab.

Ebooks on the EBSCO platform can be read online or offline. To download the file (read offline), you must create a user account (free personal registration) and install Adobe Digital Editions (download here) or Bluefire Reader on your PC.

On this platform you will find mainly pharmacy textbooks. All licensed ebooks can only be read online and cannot be downloaded as PDF.
