Open Access publishing agreements

Paracelsus Medical Private University (PMU) has established five Open Access (OA) publishing agreements. Members of the Salzburg campus of PMU or Salzburg University Hospital can publish their articles in journals from BMJ, Elsevier, Oxford University Press, Springer, or Wiley at no additional cost (i.e., no Article Processing Charges, or APCs). Additionally, all university members have online access to these publishers' journals. Detailed information on the current agreements is listed below in alphabetical order by publisher.

Note: The corresponding author must use their PMU or SALK email address and indicate their affiliation with PMU.

Publishers

Eligibility:
Members of Paracelsus Medical University Salzburg (PMU) or University Hospital Salzburg can publish OA articles free of charge in subscription journals with OA options or in Gold Open Access journals.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be the corresponding author and affiliated with PMU Salzburg or University Hospital Salzburg at the time of article acceptance.
  • PMU must be listed as (at least one of) your affiliations in the article.
  • Post-submission changes to the corresponding author and/or affiliation are not allowed.
  • The article must be submitted and accepted during the agreement period (Jan 1, 2025 – Dec 31, 2027).

Eligible Article Types:
All article types are included in the publishing agreement. A detailed list can be found here.

Workflow:
The publisher identifies eligible authors based on the submission data and notifies them during the publication process about the possibility of publishing Open Access free of charge. The university library verifies the corresponding author's affiliation with PMU. For further details on the workflow, please refer to the BMJ video “How to publish your article OA”. Please note that additional charges, such as page charges, color-in-print charges, manuscript conversion are the author's responsibility and are not covered by this agreement.

Licensing:
The article is published under a Creative Commons license. There are several licenses to choose from. PMU recommends the CC-BY 4.0 license because it best aligns with the principles of open access.

Eligibility:
The offer is available to members of Paracelsus Medical University Salzburg or the University Hospital Salzburg

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be the corresponding author and affiliated with PMU Salzburg or University Hospital Salzburg at the time of article acceptance.
  • PMU must be listed as (at least one of) your affiliations in the article.
  • Post-submission changes to the corresponding author and/or affiliation are not allowed.
  • The article must be submitted and accepted during the agreement period (Jan 1, 2024 – Dec 31, 2026).

Included Journals: 
The agreement covers over 1,700 subscription journals and more than 400 gold open access journals where you can publish open access without incurring additional costs. You can find the complete list here: List of journals.

Eligible Article Types:
Elsevier Gold OA: Full-Length Articles (FLA), Review Articles (REV) only.

Elsevier Hybrid journals: Includes FLA, REV, Case Reports, Data-in-Brief, Microarticles, Software Publications, Practice Guidelines, Protocols, Replication Studies, Short Communications, Short Surveys, Video Articles.

Workflow: 
After your article is accepted, eligible authors can choose to publish open access via the Author Dashboard. In step 1, after acceptance, select "Paracelsus Medical Private University" as your institution. To verify your affiliation, please use your institutional email address. Once the University Library confirms your affiliation, Elsevier will send you a license agreement, which you need to sign and return through the author dashboard, along with the selected Creative Commons (CC) license.

Please note that additional charges, such as page charges, color-in-print charges, and manuscript conversion costs, are the author's responsibility and are not covered by this agreement.

Also, be aware that the number of articles covered in Gold OA journals is limited. Once the quota is reached, publication costs will no longer be covered. The first-come, first-served principle applies! For purposes of eligibility, the date of acceptance is the relevant date.

  • The article must be submitted and accepted during the agreement period (Jan 1, 2023 – Dec 31, 2025).

Included Journals: 
Open Access can be published in over 350 subscription journals with an open access option, as well as in more than 140 gold open access journals journals. You can find the list here.

Workflow?
You must indicate PMU as your primary affiliation when submitting the article in order to be recognized as eligible.  Once your article has accepted for publication, you will receive an email which contains a link to the Online Licensing and Payments System, SciPris. The affiliation is verified by Oxford University Press (OUP) and the University Library. Please follow the steps outline in the OPU step-by-sty-guide. Eligibility:
Members of Paracelsus Medical University Salzburg (PMU) or University Hospital Salzburg can publish open access articles free of charge in subscription journals with an Open Choice option.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be the corresponding author and affiliated with PMU Salzburg or University Hospital Salzburg at the time of article acceptance.
  • PMU must be listed (at least one of) your affiliations in the article.
  • Post-submission changes to the corresponding author and/or affiliation are not allowed.
  • The article must be accepted during the agreement period (Jan 1, 2024 – Dec 31, 2026).

Included Journals:
A complete list of the 1,600 subscription journals in which you can publish open access at no additional cost may be found here.

Eligible Article Types:
Original Paper, Review Paper, Brief Communication, Continuing Education.

Workflow:
Once an article has been accepted, the corresponding author will be asked to confirm their affiliation to Paracelsus Medical University and to agree to the Open Access terms. Please use your institutional email address to facilitate verification of your affiliation. The affiliation is verified by the University Library and Springer.

Open Access can be published in over 1,300 subscription journals with an open access option, as well as in gold open access journals. You can find the list here.

Eligible Article Types:
Case Study, Commentary, Data Article, Education, Lecture, Method and Protocol, Perspective, Practice and Policy, Rapid Publication, Research Article, Review Article, Short Communication, Technical Note.

Workflow: 
After your article is accepted, select the option “Online Open” on the Wiley-Author Services Dashboard. Confirm your affiliation to the Paracelsus Medicinal Private University. The affiliation is verified by Wiley and the University Library. Information about the agreement can be found here. Furthermore, a short instruction about the process is available on the Wiley-Author Services Interface (PDF-Link).
