Specialized training in Intensive Care Nursing
Program structure & Content

Program structure

The university program is structured in a modular format and is completed over the course of two semesters. Each semester constitutes a study level (see graphic in the download section).

The program includes a total of 1,500 hours, corresponding to a workload of 60 ECTS, distributed as follows:

  • Level I: Basic Training (29 ECTS)
  • Level II: Specialized Training (31 ECTS)

 

Content

The program includes approximately 600 theoretical teaching units and a minimum of 720 hours of practical training. The remaining workload is dedicated to assignments and self-study.
 

Level I - Basic training

  • Communication
  • Medical and Scientific Fundamentals
  • Nursing Science I
  • Professional Practice in Nursing and Monitoring of Critically Ill Patients
  • Legal Foundations and Professional Practice
  • Internship I
    - Nursing in intensive care (operative or non-operative)
    - Nursing in anesthesia or renal replacement therapy
    - Nursing in intensive care, anesthesia, or renal replacement therapy
     

Level II – Advanced training

  • Nursing Science II
  • Communication and Ethics II
  • Professional Practice in Complex Care Situations, in patients with respiratory, cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, metabolic, immune, or infectious conditions
  • Professional Practice in Complex Care Situations, in patients with consciousness, perception, or developmental impairments
  • Internship II
    - Nursing in intensive care (operative or non-operative)
    - Nursing in anesthesia or renal replacement therapy
    - Nursing in intra- or extramural settings (with a particular focus on intensive care)
     

The program content fully adheres to the requirements outlined in GuK-SV 452/2005.

Academic qualification

  • Authorization to perform the specialized tasks of “Intensive Care Nursing” and to use the additional designation "Intensive Care Nursing" in accordance with GuK-SV 452/2005 as amended
  • Academic Expert in Intensive Care Nursing
