Upcoming dates
The Library regularly provides training sessions on scheduled dates. These are offered each fall and conducted online via MS Teams. The upcoming dates will be announced in early fall. For groups of five or more, we offer both the sessions listed below and additional workshops by prior arrangement. If you're interested in participating, please get in touch with us. Workshops
Introduction to the University Library of PMU:
This course offers a comprehensive overview of the University Library’s resources, including lending policies, a brief guide to using the PMU Library Catalog, accessing online journals, and an overview to the databases available.
Searching in the PMU Online Catalog:
In this webinar, we provide an introduction to using our Library Catalog. Along with information about your user account, we will demonstrate the key features of the PMU Online Catalog as a foundation for literature research, as well as tools that facilitate access to full text (BrowZine, Libkey Nomad).
Introduction to the PubMed Database:
This workshop provides an introduction to PubMed (Medline), the most essential medical literature database. You’ll learn how to access PubMed, understand its content and structure, perform searches using Medical Subject Headings (MeSH), save search strategies permanently, and set up alert services (My NCBI).
Introduction to the OvidSP Medline Database:
This session covers features such as comparing Medline via OvidSP with Medline via PubMed, advanced search strategies, refining search results, using Medical Subject Headings (MeSH), accessing full texts, managing personal accounts, saving search strategies, and setting up alert services.
Introduction to the CINAHL Database:
In this session, you’ll be introduced to CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature), which offers literature references from mainly English-language journals on nursing, nursing science, and healthcare. You’ll explore key functionalities such as advanced search strategies, optimizing searches, managing results, researching in the thesaurus, and setting up alert services.
Conduct Effective Research Using Databases:
This session provides an overview of the Database Information System (DBIS) and introduces a selection of licensed databases such as UpToDate, Medline, and Web of Science. You'll learn search techniques through hands-on examples and discover how to access licensed full-text content.
Introduction to the Reference Management Tool EndNote Basic:
In this workshop, you’ll get familiar with the EndNote Basic interface. Through hands-on exercises, you’ll learn how to manually create and import references from databases, the internet, and more, manage references, generate citations and bibliographies in Microsoft Word, and automatically format bibliographies.
Searching in Web of Science:
This multidisciplinary bibliographic database includes data from journals, proceedings, and more across natural sciences, technology, arts, humanities, and social sciences. The workshop covers research strategies, output options, and alert services through practical search examples. Unique features like searching for citations of scientific articles, conducting citation analysis, and creating reports are also demonstrated.
