500 Interested Visitors at the 'Open House' at PMU

Numerous visitors took the opportunity to experience the Paracelsus Medical University (PMU) up close and learn more about the study programs, research, and teaching at Salzburg's private medical university.
On March 14, 2025, the Paracelsus Medical University (PMU) in Salzburg opened its doors, lecture halls, ambulances, and laboratories to interested visitors. Over 500 people accepted the invitation and gathered information about the PMU's study programs in human medicine, pharmacy, and nursing science, as well as medical research and life and learning on the university campus in Lehen during the 'Open House' day.
Diverse Program for Getting to Know the University
Visitors from all over Austria and numerous neighboring countries attended to learn more about the degree programs at information booths and lectures and to engage in personal conversations with PMU students. The offered campus tours led through pharmacy laboratories and to 13 interactive stations from the fields of education, research, and the university hospital. Participants made their own medications in the chemistry lab, inspected the inside of an ambulance, or tried out the functionality of an ultrasound device. Tours of the simulation center and the Institute of Anatomy rounded off the program. 'Our Open House event is always a special opportunity for us to present the PMU and its entire range of study programs together with the students. I am very pleased that our offer is always so well received and that many young people and their parents come to us for it. The diversity of the PMU is particularly visible and tangible on our Open House day. It is very impressive that many students who still have several years until graduation are already interested in the PMU,' said Rector Univ.-Prof. Wolfgang Sperl, who shook many hands and answered questions at the Open House
Questions about Application Deadlines to Payment Options
'How much does studying at PMU cost?' 'Is there financial support available?' 'Is it true that PMU graduates can take the internationally recognized USMLE exam?' 'When is the application deadline for PMU?' and 'When does the semester start at PMU?' - these were among the FAQs of the day. Representatives from the International Office, the degree programs, and student financing were available to provide detailed answers. 'The Open House day is also a good opportunity to highlight that PMU can now offer over 500,000 euros in scholarships per year. This scholarship system is made possible, on the one hand, by PMU funds, which are available annually through the income from the respective tuition fees. On the other hand, it is also supported by numerous companies and private individuals who specifically contribute to our scholarship fund,' said Rector Sperl, thanking the supporters. In the current academic year, up to 70 percent of the tuition fees could be covered for a total of 106 students. The new academic year for future medical and pharmacy students begins at PMU at the end of August 2025 - significantly earlier than at public universities. The application period for medical places at the Salzburg and Nuremberg locations ends on March 31, 2025. Early-bird registration for the pharmacy program is possible until April 6, and regular registration (depending on available places) until mid-July. Admission to the program requires passing an entrance examination. 'PMU would like to thank all participants and visitors for their great interest in our Open House day. We are already looking forward to future events of this kind,' emphasized Sperl in conclusion.
