31 graduates of the pharmacy program at Paracelsus Medical Private University (PMU) celebrated the successful completion of their studies on October 18th, in an event held in the atmospheric surroundings of the Hangar-7 in Salzburg. Joining the newly minted graduates were PMU dignitaries, including Rector Univ.-Prof. Wolfgang Sperl, family, friends, and numerous honorary guests. Among these were Mag.a Margarete Olesko, President of the Salzburg Chamber of Pharmacists, Mag.a Dr. Monika Jacoby and Dr. Heinrich Jacoby, long-time generous supporters of the PMU, as well as PMU Foundation Board members Dr. Andreas Greither and Mag. Walter Haas, CEO of Innovation Salzburg GmbH.

PMU Rector Univ.-Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Sperl warmly congratulated the graduates, highlighting the quality and focus areas of their thesis projects: “The top themes of the theses include cancer research, cardiology, neurology, and regeneration. This demonstrates our committment to creating a strong foundation for the life sciences sector here in Salzburg, also within pharmacy, through collaboration with medicine.”

On behalf of the Salzburg Chamber of Pharmacists, Mag.a Margarete Olesko congratulated the graduates, saying, “As a representative of 94 pharmacies across Salzburg, I can assure you that the knowledge you have gained at PMU is in great demand in the field.” She also emphasized the essential role of pharmacies in meeting healthcare needs.

Univ.-Prof. Dr. Daniela Schuster, Dean of Pharmacy Education and Deputy Head of the Institute for Pharmacy, referenced the practical experience the graduates gained during their internships, encouraging them: “Will you choose the path of working in a pharmacy, focusing on consultation, diagnostic support, and medication analysis? Perhaps a clinical role as ward pharmacists? Or in research, pushing the boundaries of the known? Maybe in industry, contributing directly to society’s access to high-quality medicines? All of these paths are attractive. Keep this in mind: none of these paths is a one-way street! Try different roles, dare to explore professionally, and follow paths that ignite your passion. As alumni of our university, you are well prepared for it.”

The traditional graduate address was delivered by Mag.a pharm. Amelie Moosburger, Mag. pharm. Philipp Röthleitner, and Mag. pharm. Joshua Hettig.

The 2024 pharmacy graduates include 19 from Austria, 10 from Germany, and one each from Syria and Russia, with four completing their studies with honors.
