Together with numerous family members and friends, guests of honour and university dignitaries, 22 pharmacy students celebrated their well-deserved Bachelor's degree on 15 November 2024 in the Jörg Rehn Auditorium of Paracelsus Medical University (PMU) in Salzburg. All of the new graduates will continue their studies in the master's programme at the PMU. Together with six students from the Pharmazie.Switch* program and nine additional transfer students from other universities, a total of 37 students will start the first semester of the Master's degree programme in Pharmacy in autumn 2024.

PMU Rector Univ.-Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Sperl congratulated the graduates warmly, recognizing their bachelor’s theses and the degree as an important “milestone” in their academic journey. He expressed his delight that all the graduates would continue their studies in the Master’s program at PMU.

In her keynote address, Dr. Sonja Jacoby, Managing Director of Jacoby GM Pharma GmbH, spoke about the significance of the graduates’ achievements, saying: ‘It is a wonderful day for you, but also for the economy in this country. We need you – individuals who are receiving outstanding expertise and training here at PMU - together with your youthful vigor and fresh ideas. Young people who ask questions, who are prepared to challenge the status quo and find new solutions. Whether your path lies in the pharmacy, in research or elsewhere, we will eagerly await you. Use the time in the Master's program to expand your knowledge and explore your professional interests. Stay ambitious, stay curious and never stop asking questions’.

Univ.-Prof. Dr. Daniela Schuster, Dean of Education for Pharmacy paid tribute to the students who began their journey at PMU after the challenging 2021 COVID school year: "You looked to the future during difficult times, never allowed yourselves to be discouraged, and successfully completed your bachelor’s studies. During the internships in the Master’s program, you will have the perfect opportunity to apply what you’ve learned. Take full advantage of the opportunities available to you – whether in Europe or other parts of the world."

*Pharmacy.Switch is a unique program at PMU designed for students with a completed bachelor’s degree in the natural sciences, pharmaceutical biotechnology, or medicine and who are interested in going into Pharmacy. Participants complete a "bridge year" that is tailored to their individual prior knowledge and training, before seamlessly transitioning into the two-year Master’s program. PMU is the only university in the German-speaking world to offer such a transition program. For more information: https://www.pmu.ac.at/studium-weiterbildung/pharmazie-studieren/pharmazieswitch
