Wilhelm Auerswald Prize: Award for PMU Alumna Anna-Maria Wiesinger

First Place for Mag. pharm. Anna-Maria Wiesinger, PhD!
Each year, the prestigious Wilhelm Auerswald Prize is awarded for outstanding dissertations at Austria’s medical universities. PMU alumna Anna-Maria Wiesinger, PhD, from the Institute of Inherited Metabolic Diseases at Paracelsus Medical Private University (PMU), Salzburg campus, impressed the jury with her dissertation and secured first place. She shares the award with Dr. Andreas Zollner, PhD, from the Medical University of Innsbruck. The Society of Physicians awarded the prize, sponsored by Sanofi-Aventis, for the 34th time this year.
All graduates of Austrian medical universities who completed their dissertation in the previous year were invited to apply. From numerous submissions, the board selected six particularly promising works. These were presented to the jury in a ceremonial setting at the Billrothhaus of the Society of Physicians in Vienna, the capital city. PMU alumnus Dr. Stepan Maruniak was also shortlisted and invited to present his dissertation on site.
Rare Inherited Metabolic Diseases
In her dissertation titled “A Personalized Treatment Approach with Immunomodulatory Drugs in Mucopolysaccharidosis”, Anna-Maria Wiesinger explored a novel personalized therapy approach for rare inherited metabolic diseases known as mucopolysaccharidoses (MPS). Her model helps physicians better assess the benefits and risks of specific immunotherapies, allowing for more targeted and individualized treatment of MPS patients.
Paracelsus Medical Private University extends its heartfelt congratulations!
