48 Graduates in Nursing Science and Public Health Celebrated

25. Oct 2024
#News

In recent weeks, 13 Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN), 7 Master of Science in Nursing (MScN), 19 Master of Science in Advanced Nursing Practice (MSc ANP), and 9 Master of Science in Public Health (MScPH) students successfully completed their studies at Paracelsus Medical Private University (PMU). On October 25, 2024, these graduates received their diplomas during a formal ceremony at the Mozarteum Foundation. In addition to university dignitaries and honored guests - including City Councilor Andrea Brandner, Municipal Councilor Christoph Brandstätter, Mayor Eveline Huber of St. Johann, PMU Board Chairman and Founding Rector Prof. Herbert Resch, PMU board Member Dr. Andreas Greither, SALK Nursing Director Tobias Lamprecht, and many more - the event was attended by numerous friends and family members, who all gathered to celebrate this significant milestone.

PMU Rector Univ.-Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Sperl congratulated the graduates and underscored the vital role of Nursing Science and Public Health within PMU’s interdisciplinary approach, which seamlessly integrates these fields with Medicine and Pharmacy.

In his keynote speech, Harm van Maanen, Managing Partner of BrückenKöpfe GmbH in Berlin and co-founder of the annual congress series German Nursing Days (Deutscher Pflegetag), emphasized the importance of collaboration across disciplines: “You are heroes today because you hold your degree in your hands. But you will become even greater heroes by helping to shape the future of healthcare, which is urgently needed! We live in a society where the pace is incredibly fast, and the culture of care is evolving at an unprecedented rate. People expect safe and optimal care. Yet, at the same time, we face a shortage of hundreds of thousands of specialized nurses across Europe. We know we cannot provide adequate inpatient care for everyone who needs it, nor can we offer semi-outpatient care to all who require it. And while we strive to keep people at home for as long as possible, enabling them to live independently and stay healthy, achieving this goal demands interdisciplinary collaboration. No single profession can tackle these challenges alone.”

Univ.-Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Jürgen Osterbrink, Director of the Institute for Nursing Science and Practice as well as Dean of Nursing Science, encouraged graduates to:
"Be courageous. Take responsibility, embrace new paths, and face challenges head-on."

Univ.-Prof. Dr. Maria Flamm, Director of the Institute for General-, Family-, and Preventive Medicine and Director of the Research Center for Public Health and Health Services Research, highlighted the critical role of prevention in promoting physical and mental health and strengthening healthcare systems. Addressing the Public Health graduates, she urged: "Leverage your knowledge to drive sustainable change. Be pioneers in research, policy-making, health promotion, and prevention. Make a difference."

Traditional student speeches were delivered by Anika Rüsweg, BScN, Adrian Sternbeck, BScN, Regula Lang, MScN, Jens Witt, MScN, Johanna Kapsner, MSc ANP, and Clemens Berghamer, MSc ANP.
