During the current application period for the upcoming academic year at PMU (starting at the end of August 2025), the Paracelsus Medical Private University is announcing the amount of its scholarships for this year. A total of 106 recipients will receive grants to support their tuition fees in the form of scholarships. By the end of February, the university will pay out a total of €575,750 in scholarships. This year's scholarship fund has been increased compared to the previous year, allowing the university to support students of human medicine with €380,900 and students of pharmacy with €194,850.

Support for the Future

The amount of support provided is based on the financial needs of the students. PMU Rector Prof. Wolfgang Sperl emphasizes: "It is important to us to support young people in their education and thus help to secure the healthcare system in the long term. Financial circumstances should not prevent anyone from choosing a promising and excellent course of study." The allocation of scholarships is based solely on social criteria. The amount of the scholarships can cover up to 70 percent of the respective tuition fees.

Funding for Every Fifth Student

Out of a total of 523 students in the two programs at the Paracelsus Medical Private University in the current academic year (376 in human medicine and 147 in pharmacy), 106 students (62 in human medicine and 44 in pharmacy)—meaning every fifth human medicine student and approximately every fourth pharmacy student—receive such funding. The tuition fees at PMU for the five-year human medicine program are €20,900, and for the five-year pharmacy program, they are €15,900 per academic year.

Thanks to Numerous Supporters

As a private university, tuition fees are an important part of PMU's financing. Unlike public universities, private universities do not receive public funds from the federal government to support education and teaching. "This scholarship system is also made possible by numerous companies and private individuals who specifically support our scholarship fund," says Rector Sperl, thanking the supporters.

Top Performance is Also Supported

In addition, performance-based scholarships are awarded annually by the Federal Ministry, which depend on the achieved ECTS grade average and range between €750 and €1,500 per person. Students from Austria are also eligible for state study grants. For more information on the awarding and amount of performance and support scholarships:

Application Phases for the 2025/26 Academic Year Still Open

At the end of August 2025—much earlier than at public universities—the new academic year begins for future medical and pharmacy students at PMU. The application period for human medicine places at the Salzburg and Nuremberg campuses for the new cohort began in autumn 2024 and ends on March 31, 2025. Early-bird registration for the pharmacy program is possible until April 6, and regular registration (depending on available places) is open until mid-July. Successful completion of a multi-stage admission process is a prerequisite for admission to the program.
